BALINEWSID.COM, BADUNG – A motorcycle used by a meatball vendor suddenly caught fire on Jalan Raya Kampus Udayana (Unud), Jimbaran, on Thursday (July 2, 2026) night. The owner escaped unharmed after quickly removing a gas cylinder from his cart, preventing a potentially dangerous explosion.

The incident occurred at approximately 11:16 p.m. local time near the Indomaret convenience store adjacent to Udayana University. The motorcycle belonged to 22-year-old Jumat Gaweniga, a resident of Jalan Raya Kampial, Benoa Village, South Kuta.

According to initial information, Gaweniga had just finished selling meatballs and was preparing to return home. Moments after starting his motorcycle with the kick starter, sparks suddenly emerged from beneath the engine before flames rapidly engulfed the vehicle.

Despite the growing fire, Gaweniga remained calm and immediately removed the LPG cylinder attached to his meatball cart to prevent an explosion that could have endangered nearby residents and surrounding buildings.

He then sought assistance from a nearby septic tank truck. Using water from the truck, the fire was successfully extinguished before it could spread to nearby structures.

South Kuta Police Chief Kompol Muhammad Said Husen, S.I.K., M.H., said officers responded promptly after receiving reports from the public. Police secured the scene, conducted a crime scene investigation, questioned witnesses, and collected evidence to determine the exact cause of the fire.

The blaze destroyed one motorcycle, with material losses estimated at around Rp1 million (approximately US$60). No fatalities or injuries were reported, while the cause of the fire remains under investigation.
