French National Arrested After Alleged Assault at Gym in Denpasar

BALINEWSID.COM, DENPASAR — A violent incident involving a foreign national has once again occurred in Bali. A 25-year-old French man, identified by his initials RK, is suspected of assaulting a local resident at a fitness center in Denpasar on Wednesday morning. April 15, 2026.

The incident took place at IOWA Gym, located in West Denpasar, at approximately 08:00 WITA.

The victim, identified as I Gusti AIG (34), a resident of Jalan Cargo Permai, North Denpasar, sustained injuries to his head and reported pain across his body following the attack.

According to preliminary information, the incident began around 07:30 WITA when the victim arrived alone at the gym and proceeded to the second floor to exercise on a treadmill. Minutes later, the suspect suddenly approached the victim. Without any clear motive, the foreign national reportedly grabbed the victim’s shoulder and immediately launched a physical attack.

The victim attempted to fend off the assault but was unable to identify the object used by the suspect during the attack. In the struggle, the victim fell, while the perpetrator fled the scene.

The victim briefly attempted to pursue the suspect toward Jalan Batanta but eventually stopped due to exhaustion. He later returned to the gym with assistance from a colleague before being rushed to the hospital.

Initially, the victim was taken to RS Bali Med. However, for forensic examination purposes, he was referred to RSUP Prof. I.G.N.G. Ngoerah. As of now, the victim remains under medical treatment.

Head of Public Relations for Denpasar Police, I Gede Adi Saputra Jaya, confirmed the incident. He stated that the victim suffered a 1.5-centimeter abrasion on the left side of his head.

“The victim also complained of pain throughout his body. The victim and the suspect did not know each other,” he said on Wednesday.

The suspect has since been secured at the West Denpasar Police Station and is currently undergoing further investigation.

Authorities are continuing to examine the case, including the motive behind the unprovoked attack.
