BALINEWSID.COM, BADUNG — Immigration authorities at I Gusti Ngurah Rai International Airport have stopped a foreign national identified by the initials JFD from leaving Indonesia after allegedly finding 0.2 grams of cocaine hidden inside his passport.

JFD was stopped on Thursday, September 24, 2026, while attempting to depart for Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, on an AirAsia flight.

The incident began when JFD encountered difficulties while passing through an automated immigration gate (autogate) at the international departure area. An immigration officer then assisted him and conducted a more thorough inspection of his travel documents.

During the inspection, officers found a suspicious substance inside JFD’s passport that was suspected to be a prohibited item. The finding was immediately reported to Customs and Excise officers at Ngurah Rai Airport for further examination.

A subsequent inspection of JFD’s belongings and a urine test confirmed that the substance was cocaine weighing 0.2 grams. The urine test also showed that JFD had tested positive for narcotics use.

Further examination of JFD’s travel documents uncovered another irregularity. Immigration authorities found that he held passports from two different nationalities.

According to immigration records, JFD entered Indonesia on September 19, 2026, using an Irish passport under the Visa on Arrival (VoA) facility. However, when attempting to leave Indonesia, he presented a South African passport.

Following the findings, Ngurah Rai Immigration officials postponed JFD’s departure. Immigration and Customs and Excise authorities subsequently handed JFD, along with the evidence, over to the police at the I Gusti Ngurah Rai International Airport precinct for further legal proceedings.

Head of the Ngurah Rai Immigration Office Muhamad Novyandri said the case demonstrated the role of the airport’s automated immigration system and border-control procedures in detecting potential violations.

“The case involving JFD demonstrates the reliability of the autogate and immigration clearance system at I Gusti Ngurah Rai International Airport, allowing us to respond quickly to indications of legal violations,” Novyandri said.

He also emphasized the importance of cooperation among government agencies in maintaining security and public order at the international airport.

“The case will now be handled by the police in accordance with the applicable legal process,” Novyandri said.
