Elderly Woman Found Dead in Boarding House Bathroom in Denpasar

BALINEWSID.COM, DENPASAR – A 76-year-old woman was found dead inside her rented room at a boarding house on Jalan Imam Bonjol, Gang Jambu Rata, Br. Samping Buni, Pemecutan Klod Village, West Denpasar, on Saturday (July 4, 2026) at around 5:00 p.m. local time.

The victim was identified as Ni Luh Sondri (76). Her body was discovered in an advanced state of decomposition near the entrance to the bathroom inside her room.

According to police, the incident was first discovered by a witness, I Made Raka (61), who noticed a strong foul odor coming from the victim’s room at approximately 4:50 p.m. Having not seen the victim leave her room for about four days, he became concerned and attempted to check on her through the window. He found that the room was locked from the inside.

Raka then informed his cousin, Gede Putra Jaya (49), who arrived at the scene shortly afterward. After confirming that the door was locked from the inside, Putra Jaya forced it open and found the victim lying lifeless inside the bathroom. Police and medical personnel were immediately notified and responded to the scene.

Putra Jaya told investigators that he had received a call from his son informing him that the victim, a member of their extended family, had been found dead at the boarding house. Upon arriving at the location, he broke open the locked door and confirmed the victim had already passed away before reporting the incident to authorities.

A crime scene examination conducted by the Identification Unit of the Denpasar Police Criminal Investigation Division found no signs of physical violence or injuries caused by blunt or sharp objects. Officers noted that the victim’s body had already begun decomposing and that the room remained locked from the inside.

Preliminary findings suggest the victim may have died after accidentally falling inside the bathroom.

The body was evacuated by the Denpasar Red Cross (PMI) and transported to the morgue at Prof. Ngoerah General Hospital for further medical examination to determine the exact cause of death.

According to family members, the victim had no known history of serious illness. However, she reportedly had difficulty walking due to a limp resulting from a previous accident.

Police said further medical examination is underway, and the exact cause of death remains under investigation.
