Bali Police Chief Warns Investigators: Do Not Obstruct Public Access to Justice

BALINEWSID.COM, DENPASAR – Bali Police Chief Inspector General Pasma Royce has instructed criminal investigators to uphold professionalism, integrity, and fairness in law enforcement, stressing that members of the public seeking justice must not face unnecessary obstacles. He emphasized that every report must be handled objectively, transparently, proportionately, and without discrimination.

Pasma delivered the directive during a briefing for personnel assigned to the Bali Regional Police’s criminal investigation units at the fourth-floor auditorium of the Directorate of Special Criminal Investigation building on Jalan Kamboja, Denpasar, at 9 a.m. local time on Friday, October 23, 2026.

The briefing was attended by Bali Deputy Police Chief Brigadier General I Made Astawa and the Bali Police Inspectorate General’s Office chief, Senior Commissioner Asep Ahdiatna. Participants included personnel from the Directorate of General Criminal Investigation, the Directorate of Special Criminal Investigation, the Directorate of Narcotics Investigation, and the Directorate of Cybercrime Investigation.

During the briefing, Pasma stressed that criminal investigators bear significant responsibility for ensuring that law enforcement is carried out professionally and in accordance with applicable laws. He said the handling of criminal cases directly affects the public’s right to protection, justice, and legal certainty.

“Every action taken by an investigator reflects the face of the National Police in the eyes of the public. Public trust in the police is built through conduct and work performance,” Pasma said.

He instructed all investigators to provide clear information and certainty regarding legal proceedings to people who file reports. Complainants must be treated objectively and equally, without discrimination, while every case must be handled in accordance with legal procedures.

“Provide legal process certainty to members of the public who file reports. Treat complainants objectively and without discrimination, and enforce the law professionally and proportionately,” he said.

Pasma added that public trust must be demonstrated through concrete actions in daily police work. These include officers’ conduct, the way they communicate with complainants, the accuracy with which cases are handled, and the clarity of information provided throughout the legal process.

He also reminded investigators that their authority must always be accompanied by integrity and accountability. Firm law enforcement, he said, must go hand in hand with fairness and respect for the public’s rights.

Through the briefing, Pasma underscored the importance of improving the quality of criminal investigation services to ensure that every public report is handled professionally, fairly, and in accordance with applicable laws and regulations.
