Immigration Chief Warns Foreigners: Disrupt Bali, Face Action

BALINEWSID.COM, BADUNG — Director General of Immigration Hendarsam Marantoko has issued a stern warning to foreign nationals (WNA) who violate Indonesian regulations or disrupt public order and security in Bali.

Hendarsam personally led an immigration patrol in several areas considered prone to violations involving foreign nationals in Bali on Thursday night (Aug. 27, 2026).

Speaking after the patrol, Hendarsam said immigration authorities would not hesitate to take action against foreign nationals who violate the law, including those whose conduct disturbs local communities.

His statement came in response to questions about the handling of an alleged indecent act involving Australian tourists in Bali.

Hendarsam said one of the alleged perpetrators had been apprehended and was still being investigated, while a female suspect was still being sought.

“We are conducting further investigation. One has already been apprehended. As soon as we have sufficient grounds, we will take deportation action as soon as possible,” Hendarsam said.

He explained that deportation is not automatically imposed on every foreign national who commits a violation. Immigration authorities first assess the nature and severity of the offense.

“There are violations that can be handled through immigration administrative measures, while others fall under criminal law. We deport foreign nationals when the violation does not fall within the criminal domain,” he said.

However, if an offense constitutes a criminal violation, Hendarsam stressed that the legal process would proceed.

“If it falls under the criminal domain, we will take action. Absolutely,” he said firmly.

Hendarsam described criminal prosecution as an ultimum remedium, or last resort, for violations that are not considered serious. However, when a foreign national’s actions meet the elements of a criminal offense, the authorities will pursue the case through the legal system.

“If it has entered the realm of a criminal offense, we will certainly take legal action,” he said.

At the same time, Hendarsam assured foreign tourists that Indonesia, particularly Bali, remains open to visitors who come with good intentions and comply with Indonesian laws and regulations.

“Do not hesitate to come to Indonesia. Our doors will always be open to tourists who come with good intentions and want to enjoy their holiday. We will protect them,” he said.

However, he warned that foreign nationals who violate public order, disturb local communities or threaten security would face firm action.

“For those who come without good intentions and then violate public order, disturb local communities or compromise security, there is no other option — we must take action,” Hendarsam said.

He stressed that the measures were necessary to ensure Bali remains a safe destination not only for international tourists but also for local residents.

“We want Bali to be a safe place not only for tourists, but also for the people of Bali,” Hendarsam concluded.
