Denpasar Police Push Wider CCTV Installation to Strengthen Electronic Evidence

BALINEWSID.COM, DENPASAR – Denpasar Police (Polresta Denpasar) is intensifying the use of Closed-Circuit Television (CCTV) footage as electronic evidence to support criminal investigations and law enforcement. The initiative aims to improve the effectiveness of investigations, accelerate case resolution, and strengthen the quality of evidence presented in criminal proceedings.

Denpasar Police Public Relations Officer, Iptu I Gede Adi Saputra Jaya, S.H., M.H., said CCTV recordings have become an essential investigative tool because they provide objective, authentic, and legally admissible visual evidence.

“Denpasar Police continues to optimize the use of CCTV recordings in every stage of investigation. Electronic evidence in the form of CCTV footage greatly assists investigators in uncovering legal facts, identifying suspects, reconstructing criminal incidents, and strengthening other forms of evidence. This enables law enforcement to be carried out more quickly, accurately, professionally, and accountably,” he said.

One notable example of CCTV’s effectiveness was the investigation into a hit-and-run traffic accident on Jalan Cokroaminoto, North Denpasar, on May 31, 2026. Officers from the Traffic Unit reviewed CCTV footage from several locations surrounding the scene.

The footage enabled investigators to identify the vehicle that fled the scene, trace its route, locate the driver, and summon the individual for questioning in accordance with the law. CCTV recordings served as crucial electronic evidence that strengthened the overall case and ensured a more efficient investigation.

CCTV also played a key role in the investigation of the alleged kidnapping of a Ukrainian national, IHOR KOMARAV, in Jimbaran, South Kuta. Investigators from the South Kuta Police, assisted by the Bali Police Criminal Investigation Directorate and Denpasar Police Criminal Investigation Unit, analyzed CCTV footage from multiple locations believed to have been used by the victim and the suspects.

Through the analysis, investigators successfully tracked the victim’s movements, identified the vehicles used by the suspects, and reconstructed their movements before and after the alleged crime. The visual evidence was combined with other supporting evidence to strengthen the investigation.

“The CCTV analysis, when combined with other evidence, provided investigators with a comprehensive picture of the criminal incident. It became one of the key factors supporting the investigation, which ultimately led to the designation of six suspects in accordance with applicable laws and regulations,” Adi Saputra Jaya said.

He added that CCTV has significant strategic value in law enforcement, not only by helping identify perpetrators and reconstruct criminal events but also by tracing escape routes and corroborating witness testimony and physical evidence.

Beyond its investigative value, CCTV also serves as a crime deterrent by reducing opportunities for criminal activity in public spaces. Expanding CCTV coverage in residential areas, business districts, public facilities, vital infrastructure, and traffic corridors is expected to further strengthen public security and support professional, modern, transparent, and accountable policing.

Denpasar Police has called on local governments, businesses, property managers, and the public to support the expansion of CCTV networks in strategic locations. The collaboration is expected to enhance surveillance, limit criminals’ movements, and reinforce the overall security system across the Denpasar Police jurisdiction.

“Denpasar Police remains committed to maximizing the use of information technology, including CCTV, as part of the transformation toward precision policing. Public support in providing and utilizing CCTV systems will further strengthen our efforts to maintain public order and security while delivering protection, public service, and fair law enforcement to the community,” he concluded.
