Trash Fire Destroys Fruit Carton Warehouse, Causes Rp500 Million in Damage

BALINEWSID.COM, DENPASAR – A warehouse storing used fruit packaging cartons was destroyed in a fire on Sunday (July 5, 2026) in Panjer, South Denpasar, after a trash-burning incident allegedly ignited stacks of cardboard boxes.

The fire broke out at around 1:00 p.m. local time at a warehouse located on Jalan Tukad Pancoran IV A1 No. A1, Panjer, South Denpasar.

According to preliminary information, the incident began at approximately 12:00 p.m. when an employee of the warehouse owner burned trash in the yard inside the warehouse. About an hour later, the flames spread rapidly after reaching piles of used fruit cartons, causing the fire to engulf the warehouse.

The blaze also spread to a nearby house owned by Komang Andika, destroying the residence and a Suzuki Jimny parked on the property. In addition, the fire damaged the window of a neighboring house owned by Ida Bagus Mahendra Jaya and melted a water storage tank belonging to Ngurah Usayana.

Warehouse owner Komang Andika, 51, said he was resting inside his home, located next to the warehouse, when he heard residents shouting that a fire had broken out.

“I immediately rushed outside and saw that the flames were already very large. Together with local residents, we tried to extinguish the fire using tap water, but the blaze had become too intense,” he said.

Another witness, Aris Dianto, 50, stated that he had seen one of the warehouse employees burning trash inside the warehouse compound at around 12:30 p.m., roughly half an hour before the fire spread out of control. He later joined neighbors in attempting to put out the flames using a water hose.

Five fire engines from the Denpasar City Fire and Rescue Department were dispatched to the scene. Firefighters managed to bring the blaze under control and fully extinguish it at approximately 1:40 p.m.

No fatalities or injuries were reported in the incident. However, the total material losses are estimated at around Rp500 million (approximately US$30,000).

Authorities believe the fire was most likely caused by flames from the trash-burning activity that spread to the highly flammable stacks of used fruit cartons inside the warehouse. The victims have been advised to file an official report with the South Denpasar Police, while the exact cause of the fire remains under investigation.
