BALINEWSID.COM, DENPASAR – A 34-year-old man was found dead inside his boarding house room in North Denpasar on Thursday (July 2, 2026) morning. Police are investigating the incident, while the exact cause of death has yet to be determined.
The victim, identified as Handoyo, was discovered unresponsive in his rented room on Jalan Patih Nambi Utara, Banjar Tulang Ampian, Dusun Batu Mekasem, Ubung Kaja Village, North Denpasar District, at around 9:00 a.m. local time.
According to the boarding house owner, I Wayan Mar Hendra, 62, he was informed by another tenant that Handoyo had been found motionless inside his room. After checking the room himself and confirming the victim had died, he immediately contacted officers from the North Denpasar Police for further handling.
The owner said the victim had been renting the room for approximately one year.
A witness, Theresia, 47, said she was cooking in her house when her child told her that the victim’s mobile phone had been ringing repeatedly without being answered. Concerned, she went to the victim’s room at around 8:30 a.m. to wake him up.
Despite repeatedly calling his name, the victim did not respond. When she approached him, she found him lying on his back with his body already turning bluish and his hands stiff, leading her to suspect he had died some time earlier.
She immediately informed the boarding house owner about the incident.
Another witness, Suheri, 44, who described the victim as a close friend and like family, said he had last met Handoyo on Tuesday, June 30. At the time, the victim appeared to be in good health and had never complained of any illness or disclosed any underlying medical condition.
Suheri said he learned of Handoyo’s death after receiving a phone call from one of the victim’s co-workers at a laundry business at around 9:30 a.m. He then went to the boarding house and confirmed that the victim had indeed passed away.
When officers arrived at the scene, the victim was found lying partly on the bed, with his upper body resting on the mattress and the lower half on the floor. His head was facing west and his feet toward the south. He was wearing a white sleeveless undershirt and blue denim shorts.
Police have processed the scene and are continuing their investigation. As of now, the cause of Handoyo’s death remains unknown pending further examination.
