Two Suspected Thieves Arrested After Attempted Break-in at Construction Site

BALINEWSID.COM, DENPASAR – Police from the South Denpasar Police Criminal Investigation Unit (Reskrim) have arrested two men suspected of attempting to commit theft after illegally entering the yard of a construction site in South Denpasar, Bali.

The incident occurred at around 5:00 a.m. local time on Thursday (July 2, 2026) at a construction project located on Jalan Babakan Sari No. 7E, Pedungan Village, South Denpasar District.

The suspects were identified by their initials RI (24) and JU (27). One suspect was apprehended by workers at the scene, while the second was later arrested by police following further investigation.

According to the police report, the victim, Fauzi (47), was sleeping inside a car parked in the construction site’s yard at approximately 4:00 a.m. when he heard a motorcycle stop beside the workers’ barracks and noticed two men talking nearby.

Moments later, Fauzi saw one of the men attempting to enter the workers’ shelter without permission. He immediately shouted for help, waking up other workers, who rushed to the scene and managed to detain one of the suspects. The other suspect fled before police arrived.

The victim subsequently reported the incident to the South Denpasar Police. No property was stolen, and no financial losses were reported because the attempted theft was thwarted before it could be carried out.

Following the report, the South Denpasar Police Criminal Investigation Unit, led by the Head of the Criminal Investigation Unit, visited the crime scene to question witnesses and review CCTV footage.

Based on witness statements and information obtained from the suspect detained by local residents, investigators tracked down the second suspect to the Paku Sari area, where he was arrested at his workplace. Both suspects were then taken to the South Denpasar Police headquarters for further investigation.

During interrogation, the suspects admitted that they had planned to steal from the construction site due to financial difficulties.

Investigators also revealed that the suspects confessed to having committed a theft at the same construction site several months earlier, during which they allegedly stole two mobile phones that were later sold in the Danau Tempe area of Sanur.

In addition, the suspects admitted to carrying out other thefts in the Sanur and Pemogan areas.

The South Denpasar Police are continuing their investigation to determine whether the suspects are linked to additional theft cases within the jurisdiction of the Denpasar Police.

According to the Public Relations Section of the Denpasar Police, investigators are currently developing the case based on the suspects’ confessions and collecting further evidence.
