BALINEWSID.COM, DENPASAR – West Denpasar Police have uncovered a child abandonment case and arrested a 33-year-old woman identified by her initials, NKSD, for allegedly abandoning her newborn baby girl in a roadside alley in West Denpasar.
The case was reported under Police Report Number LP/B/63/VI/2026/SPKT/POLSEK DENBAR/POLRESTA DENPASAR/POLDA BALI dated June 12, 2026.
NKSD has been named a suspect and charged under Article 76B in conjunction with Article 77B of Indonesia’s Law No. 35 of 2014 on Child Protection, which carries a maximum penalty of five years imprisonment.
According to police, the incident occurred on Friday, June 12, 2026, at approximately 3:30 p.m. local time in Gang Penataran Sari, off Jalan Imam Bonjol, Pemecutan Kelod Village, West Denpasar. The victim is a newborn baby girl who had just been delivered by the suspect.
Investigators revealed that NKSD gave birth alone in her room at around 1:00 p.m. without assistance from medical personnel or any other individual. After the delivery, she cut the baby’s umbilical cord using a pair of scissors she had prepared beforehand. The suspect reportedly held the baby and breastfed her shortly after birth.
However, at around 3:00 p.m., the suspect allegedly carried out a plan she had contemplated since discovering her pregnancy in October 2025. Police said she placed the newborn inside a purple cloth bag and transported the baby on a motorcycle.
The suspect then traveled north along Jalan Imam Bonjol and entered Gang Penataran Sari, where she stopped, removed the bag containing the infant from the front compartment of her motorcycle, and left it on the roadside before returning home.
During questioning, the suspect told investigators that she abandoned the baby because she was ashamed of having become pregnant out of wedlock. She also stated that the child’s father had left her and refused to take responsibility for the pregnancy.
The case came to light after West Denpasar Police received a report at approximately 4:00 p.m. regarding the discovery of a baby abandoned in Gang Penataran Sari. The West Denpasar Police Chief, accompanied by the Criminal Investigation Unit, immediately responded to the scene and arranged for the infant’s rescue.
The baby was taken to a medical clinic for examination and was declared to be in good health. Following medical treatment, the infant was placed under the care of the Denpasar Social Services Agency.
Police investigators then conducted a crime scene examination and gathered information from witnesses in the surrounding area. Their investigation led them to identify the suspected perpetrator.
Less than six hours after the baby was found, officers located and arrested NKSD at her residence at approximately 9:00 p.m. on the same day. During interrogation, she admitted to abandoning the newborn.
The suspect and the evidence have since been secured at West Denpasar Police Station as authorities continue the legal process.
