Young Man Slips into Dam in Mengwi, Found Dead

BALINEWSID.COM, BADUNG — A young man identified as Sugeng, a male from Malang, was found dead after reportedly slipping and falling into a dam in Banjar area, Mengwi District, Badung Regency, on Friday (April 17, 2026) morning.

The incident is believed to have occurred at around 2:00 a.m. local time when the victim attempted to urinate near the dam. Initial reports suggest that he was under the influence of alcohol at the time of the حادث.

Authorities at the Denpasar Search and Rescue Office received the report from Mengwi Police officer Gede Artawan at approximately 4:00 a.m. In response, a team of eight SAR personnel was immediately dispatched to the scene.

Upon arrival, the joint SAR team conducted a search operation by deploying a diver near the dam’s floodgate, where the water depth ranged between three to four meters. However, the initial underwater search did not yield results.

The search was then extended downstream. The victim was eventually found dead approximately 10 to 15 meters from the initial point where he fell.

“The victim was located around 10 to 15 meters from the point of the fall,” said Gede Suastra, Field Coordinator of the Denpasar Search and Rescue Office.

At the time of discovery, the victim was in water reaching about thigh level of an adult and was still fully clothed. His body was later evacuated and transported to Mangusadha Regional Hospital in Badung using an ambulance from the Indonesian Red Cross (PMI) of Badung Regency.

The search and evacuation operation involved a joint team comprising eight personnel from the Denpasar Search and Rescue Office, three officers from Badung Police, six officers from Mengwi Police, two personnel from the Water Police Unit of Badung Police, three members of PMI Badung, and local residents.
