Ukrainian National Detained in Bali for Alleged Drug Involvement and 66-Day Overstay

BALINEWSID.COM, BADUNG, — The Ngurah Rai Immigration Office has reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining law and order in Bali after detaining a Ukrainian national suspected of drug abuse and immigration violations. April 19, 2026.

The arrest was carried out as part of the “Dharma Dewata” Immigration Patrol, a joint operation between the Ngurah Rai Immigration Office and the Bali National Narcotics Agency. The suspect, identified by initials DB (32), was apprehended on Saturday (April 18) at a villa in Canggu.

Authorities said the operation was launched following a tip-off from the Bali National Narcotics Agency regarding suspicious drug-related activities involving a foreign national at a local accommodation. Acting on the report, an immigration patrol team arrived at the villa at approximately 3:00 PM local time.

Upon arrival, officers coordinated with villa security and BNN personnel before escorting the suspect for inspection. During a search of DB’s room, officers discovered drug paraphernalia believed to have been used. However, no narcotics substances were found at the scene.

Further investigation revealed that DB had overstayed his permitted period of stay in Indonesia by 66 days.

Head of the Ngurah Rai Immigration Office, Bugie Kurniawan, confirmed that the suspect has been taken into custody for further questioning and formal examination.

“We do not tolerate any foreign nationals violating Indonesian laws, whether related to stay permits or involvement in criminal activities. The individual will face immigration administrative sanctions in the form of deportation and blacklisting in accordance with prevailing regulations,” Bugie stated.

Meanwhile, Head of the Bali Regional Office of the Directorate General of Immigration, Felucia Sengky Ratna, praised the inter-agency collaboration in the operation. She emphasized that the Dharma Dewata patrol is a concrete effort to safeguard Bali’s image as a world-class tourist destination.

“Through consistent supervision and strong synergy, we aim to ensure that Bali remains a safe and welcoming destination for international visitors who respect the law and local values,” she said.

The Ngurah Rai Immigration Office also reiterated its commitment to strengthening cooperation with relevant agencies to keep Bali free from narcotics abuse and immigration violations.
