Two Days Missing, Man Swept Away by Waves at Purnama Beach Found Dead

BALINEWSID.COM, GIANYAR – After two days of intensive search efforts, a joint search and rescue (SAR) team has found a man who was swept away by strong currents at Purnama Beach. The victim, identified as Agus Suarsa Dharma (27), was discovered dead on the shoreline of Saba Beach, Saba Village, Blahbatuh District, Gianyar Regency, on Monday night (April 6, 2026).

The body was found at approximately 8:10 p.m. local time by a witness, I Komang Jaya Kesuma, who was combing the alongside the victim’s family. He spotted a male body washed ashore and confirmed it was the missing victim.

“The discovery was immediately reported to the family and the joint SAR team at the search location,” said I Wayan Juni Antara, Head of Operations and Preparedness at the Denpasar Search and Rescue Office (Basarnas Bali).

At around 8:54 p.m., the victim’s body was evacuated to Sanjiwani Regional Hospital in Gianyar using an ambulance from the Gianyar branch of the Indonesian Red Cross (PMI) for further handling.

Earlier, Agus Suarsa Dharma, a resident of Banjar Telabah, Sukawati Village, had been reported missing since Sunday (April 5, 2026) after being swept away by the current while attempting to rescue a friend.

The incident began when the victim, along with Kadek Raditya (18) and another friend, was swimming at Purnama Beach. Shortly after, large waves struck and dragged Kadek Raditya into the current.

Seeing the situation, Agus attempted to help and successfully rescued his friend. However, a subsequent large wave hit and swept Agus away, causing him to drown.

The incident was reported to the Denpasar Search and Rescue Office at around 8:00 a.m. local time. In response, rescue teams were immediately deployed with marine SAR equipment to conduct a search, which ultimately led to the recovery of the victim’s body.
