BALINEWSID.COM, BADUNG – Indonesian police arrested the suspected gunman behind the shooting at The Shady Pig bar in Canggu, Badung, less than 24 hours after the incident, following a coordinated operation involving the Bali Police (Polda Bali), Badung Police (Polres Badung), and several law enforcement agencies.

The suspect, identified by the initials H.S.H. (49), an Indonesian national, was apprehended at Soekarno-Hatta International Airport in Jakarta on Saturday (July 18, 2026). The arrest was carried out by the Badung Police Criminal Investigation Unit with support from the Bali Police and in coordination with the Soekarno-Hatta Airport Police.

After being taken into custody, the suspect was immediately flown back to Bali for further questioning and legal proceedings at Badung Police Headquarters.

Bali Police spokesperson Senior Commissioner Ariasandy confirmed the arrest, saying the suspect is currently undergoing intensive interrogation while investigators continue to determine the motive behind the shooting.

“The suspect has been secured by the Badung Police team with support from the Bali Police. He is currently being questioned, and investigators are conducting further examinations to determine the motive behind the incident,” Ariasandy said.

The shooting occurred at approximately 2:50 a.m. local time on Friday (July 17, 2026) at The Shady Pig, located on Jalan Pantai Berawa, Canggu, North Kuta District, Badung Regency.

According to the preliminary investigation, the incident began after an argument between the suspect and a 25-year-old Chinese national, identified as E.A. During the altercation, I.M.Y.M. (32), a security guard at the venue, attempted to intervene and separate the individuals.

Investigators believe the suspect then drew a firearm and fired a shot. The bullet passed through the left thigh of the security guard before striking E.A., who was standing behind him. Both victims sustained gunshot wounds and remain under medical treatment.

Police recovered several pieces of evidence from the crime scene, including a copper-colored bullet projectile believed to have been fired from the suspect’s weapon, blood-stained clothing, shoes, and other items. Officers also analyzed CCTV footage, questioned multiple witnesses, and secured the area as part of the investigation.

Authorities said the suspect initially remained in Bali after the shooting before attempting to flee to Jakarta via I Gusti Ngurah Rai International Airport. Through swift coordination between Badung Police, Bali Police, the Jakarta Metropolitan Police, Soekarno-Hatta Airport Police, and immigration authorities at both airports, officers successfully intercepted and arrested the suspect immediately after his arrival in Jakarta.

Police described the arrest as a result of rapid inter-agency cooperation and a strong commitment to ensuring public safety and legal certainty. Investigators are continuing to examine the suspect, determine the motive for the shooting, and trace the origin and legality of the firearm allegedly used in the attack.
