BALINEWSID.COM, BADUNG – Thick smoke filled part of the second floor of the International Terminal at I Gusti Ngurah Rai International Airport in Tuban, Kuta, Badung, Bali, on Thursday (July 30, 2026) night.

The airport management confirmed that smoke was detected at a commercial outlet in the international terminal at around 9:57 p.m. local time.

Gede Eka Sandi Asmadi, Head of the Communication & Legal Division at I Gusti Ngurah Rai International Airport, said Airport Rescue and Fire Fighting (ARFF) personnel, assisted by other airport staff, immediately responded to the incident and directed passengers and airport users away from the affected area.

“The Airport Rescue and Fire Fighting (ARFF) personnel, assisted by other airport staff, immediately carried out an initial response and directed airport users away from the incident location,” Gede Eka said in a statement issued Thursday night.

He said the swift response prevented the incident from causing any injuries. Airport operations and services for passengers continued normally.

The smoke was brought under control at approximately 10:13 p.m. local time. Airport management subsequently began the process of restoring services, or service recovery, in the affected area.

However, the airport has not yet confirmed the cause of the smoke.

When asked whether the smoke was caused by a fire at the commercial outlet, Gede Eka declined to provide further details.

“We will provide an update if there are any further developments,” he said.

The management of I Gusti Ngurah Rai International Airport apologized to passengers and other airport users for the inconvenience caused by the incident.

The airport also urged passengers and airport users not to panic and to continue following instructions from personnel on the ground.

Despite the incident, airport operations and passenger services remained normal.
