SMAN 1 Kuta Holds Environmental Championship to Promote Waste Awareness Among Youth

BALINEWSID.COM, BADUNG – The Nature Lovers Club (Sispala) Wira Satya Mandala of SMAN 1 Kuta successfully held the first-ever Wisma Environmental Championship (WEC) 2026 on Saturday (May 30), bringing together dozens of students from across Badung Regency to compete in environmental-themed contests aimed at raising awareness about waste management and environmental conservation.

The event, held at the SMAN 1 Kuta Hall on Jalan Dewi Saraswati, Seminyak, featured an Environmental Quiz Competition and a Creative Video Contest for junior and senior high school students.

Chairperson of Sispala Wira Satya Mandala, Komang Charissa Maharani, said the championship was organized in response to growing environmental concerns, particularly the increasing waste problem affecting communities.

“Waste management is not only the responsibility of adults. Education must begin at an early age so that young people do not grow up becoming indifferent to environmental issues,” she said.

Maharani added that WEC 2026 was designed to provide a platform for young people to develop their talents while strengthening their awareness and commitment to environmental preservation.

The inaugural event attracted strong participation, with a total of 53 students representing schools from Petang, Kuta, and North Kuta.

According to organizing committee chair Ni Komang Senja Devina, 15 teams consisting of 45 participants competed in the Environmental Quiz category, while four teams involving eight participants took part in the Creative Video Contest.

“The enthusiasm shown by participants reflects the strong spirit of young people to contribute to protecting the environment,” Devina said.

The competition was judged by environmental practitioners and activists. The Environmental Quiz Competition was assessed by Anak Agung Istri Sri Sintya Cahyani from the Environmental Education Center (PPLH), I Made Agus Jaya Wardana from the Malu Dong community, and child campaign activist Ratu Ayu Ningrat.

“We hope this event serves as a platform for education, collaboration, and inspiration for young people and the wider community to actively contribute to environmental conservation,” Narayana said.

In the Environmental Quiz Competition, SPENDUTA 02 from SMP Negeri 2 Kuta won first place, followed by SMP Negeri 1 Kuta Utara in second place and VORTEX from SMP Negeri 1 Kuta in third.
