Interpol Fugitive Mafia Boss Arrested in Bali Over Drugs and Murder Cases

BALINEWSID.COM, DENPASAR – International fugitive and alleged European mafia boss Steven Lyons has been arrested in Bali after two years on the run from Spanish authorities. He was apprehended shortly after arriving at I Gusti Ngurah Rai International Airport.

According to official information, Lyons had been on Spain’s wanted list since 2024 in connection with murder cases in Malaga and Madrid. The Scottish national, believed to be the leader of the transnational criminal network known as the “Lyons Crime Family,” was formally listed on the Interpol Red Notice under registration number A-4908/3-2026 dated March 26, 2026.

“He has been on the Spanish police’s wanted list for two years following the 2024 murders in Malaga and Madrid,” said Brig. Gen. Pol. Untung Widyatmoko, Secretary of Indonesia’s National Central Bureau (NCB) Interpol, at Bali Police Headquarters on Tuesday (March 31, 2026).

Untung explained that the arrest followed intelligence shared by NCB Interpol Abu Dhabi regarding Lyons’ travel to Indonesia. A joint team comprising the Indonesian National Police’s International Relations Division (Divhubinter), Bali Police, Ngurah Rai Airport Police, and Ngurah Rai Immigration was deployed at the airport’s arrival area. Lyons was reportedly flying in from Singapore.

“The joint team secured the suspect at the location without any resistance,” Untung said.

Authorities described Lyons as a major figure in organized crime, allegedly involved in a range of transnational offenses, including drug trafficking, murder, and money laundering. His criminal network is said to operate not only across Europe but also in parts of the Middle East, including the United Arab Emirates, Qatar, Bahrain, and Turkey.

“He is clearly involved in murder cases, stemming from rivalry between two criminal groups — the Daniels group and the Lyons group — both originating from Scotland but operating across much of Europe,” Untung added.

The arrest is part of “Operation ARMORUM,” a joint investigation involving Spain’s Guardia Civil Central Operative Unit (ECO Málaga) and Police Scotland. As part of coordinated operations in Europe on March 27, 2026, authorities carried out 33 arrests in Scotland and 12 in Spain.

Steven Lyons is scheduled to be extradited to Spain on April 1, 2026, for further legal proceedings.
