JAKARTA, BALINEWS.ID – The government has confirmed that Indonesia’s energy supply remains secure and is not in an emergency condition, despite global turmoil driven by geopolitical conflicts that continue to push up oil and gas prices.

Finance Minister Purbaya Yudhi Sadewa emphasized that an energy emergency would only occur if supply were disrupted, not merely due to rising prices. He stressed that Indonesia’s energy supply is still stable at present.

“An energy emergency is when supply stops. That’s what I’m concerned about. Not the price, if there’s no supply, that’s the real issue. But right now, supply is still available, so it’s not an emergency,” he said during a halal bihalal gathering on Wednesday (March 25, 2026).

However, he acknowledged that the government must remain vigilant if global conflicts persist. He also highlighted the need for long-term solutions to mitigate risks to Indonesia’s energy supply.

“We have to stay prepared moving forward. If situations like this keep happening, we can’t always be anxious. We need a more sustainable solution,” he added.

As a comparison, neighboring Philippines has already declared an energy emergency due to supply disruptions, implementing a work-from-home policy two days a week to conserve energy.

On this occasion, he also ensured that Indonesia’s State Budget (APBN) remains resilient against the surge in oil and gas prices driven by the conflict in the Middle East. He stated that, even until the end of the year, the APBN is still capable of absorbing the increase in energy prices.

“I will not change the APBN or existing subsidies unless prices reach an अत्यंत high level. But for now, with current prices, we can still withstand it until the end of the year,” he said. (*)
