BALINEWSID.COM, DENPASAR — The Denpasar City National Narcotics Agency (BNN) has strengthened efforts to address drug abuse through the establishment and consolidation of an Integrated Assessment Team (TAT) at the city level.

The effort was carried out through a stakeholder coordination meeting for the Integrated Assessment Team, led by Denpasar BNN Chief Commissioner Dr. Leo Dedy Defretes, S.H., S.I.K., M.H., at the Denpasar BNN office on Monday (Sept. 28, 2026).

The meeting was aimed at strengthening coordination among government agencies and related institutions to ensure that the integrated assessment process is carried out professionally, effectively and in accordance with applicable regulations.

In his capacity as the person in charge and chairman of the Denpasar City Integrated Assessment Team, Leo explained the background to the establishment of the TAT, the integrated assessment service procedures and the division of responsibilities among the participating institutions.

The meeting brought together members of the Denpasar City Integrated Assessment Team, team leaders from the Denpasar BNN, and representatives from several related institutions, including the Bali Provincial BNN, the Denpasar Police Narcotics Unit, Wangaya Regional General Hospital, Bhayangkara Hospital and Udayana University.

In his remarks, Leo stressed the importance of balancing law enforcement with rehabilitation in addressing drug-related problems.

He said firm law enforcement measures should be taken against those involved in illicit drug trafficking, while people struggling with drug dependence should receive humane, evidence-based rehabilitation to support their recovery.

Leo also instructed all members of the Integrated Assessment Team to comply with technical guidelines and deadlines for issuing assessment recommendations.

Adherence to procedures and timelines, he said, is essential to ensure that every assessment process is conducted accountably, on schedule and in accordance with established regulations.

The meeting continued with a sharing session and discussion among stakeholders. The forum was used to identify potential challenges in implementing the Integrated Assessment Team program and to discuss measures to mitigate those challenges.

Through the establishment and strengthened coordination of the Integrated Assessment Team, the Denpasar BNN said it is committed to improving cross-sector cooperation in addressing drug-related problems.

The approach focuses on three key areas: legal certainty, recovery and a humane response to people affected by drug abuse.
