BALINEWSID.COM, JAKARTA — The Directorate General of Corrections (Ditjenpas) under the Ministry of Immigration and Corrections (Kemenimipas) is preparing to conduct a further investigation into Class IIA Cibinong Prison in Bogor together with the House of Representatives’ Commission XIII.

Director General of Corrections Mashudi said Ditjenpas had taken several investigative steps following a visit by the Indonesian Ombudsman to Cibinong Prison on Wednesday, September 23.

On the same day, Ditjenpas deployed teams from its Directorate of Security and Intelligence, Directorate of Internal Compliance, State Property Division, as well as the Inspectorate General of the Ministry of Immigration and Corrections to conduct a renewed examination.

“On the same day following the incident, we deployed teams from the Directorate of Security and Intelligence, the Directorate of Internal Compliance, the State Property Division, and the Inspectorate General of the Ministry of Immigration and Corrections to conduct a further examination,” Mashudi said during a hearing with Commission XIII of the House of Representatives on Monday (September 28).

Ditjenpas has also taken steps against the personnel concerned by subjecting them to further examination.

“The personnel concerned have undergone an examination, and we are ready to conduct another examination together with Commission XIII of the House of Representatives,” Mashudi said.

Meanwhile, Commission XIII Chairman Willy Aditya said a comprehensive investigation was necessary to determine what occurred at Cibinong Prison. He also said that proportionate sanctions and measures should be imposed if violations were found.

Commission XIII is scheduled to conduct an on-site investigation with officials from the Ministry of Immigration and Corrections on Wednesday, September 30.

The investigation is intended to provide a more comprehensive picture of the incident and serve as an evaluation of the correctional system’s security and governance.

“We will go directly to the site to conduct a comprehensive joint investigation. This is important as a basis for recommendations on the establishment of a working committee, as well as improvements to the security system and correctional governance,” Willy said.

The joint investigation is expected to provide further findings that can serve as a basis for evaluating security procedures and governance at Cibinong Prison and within the broader corrections system.
