BALINEWSID.COM, DENPASAR — Indonesia’s National Narcotics Agency (BNN) and the Australian Federal Police (AFP) have renewed their cooperation through the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) aimed at strengthening joint efforts to combat cross-border drug abuse and illicit trafficking.

The MoU renewal was signed at the Bali Provincial BNN Office on Tuesday (Sept. 22, 2026). The event was attended by Denpasar BNN Chief, Police Commissioner Dr. Leo Dedy Defretes, S.H., S.I.K., M.H.

BNN Chief Commissioner General Suyudi Ario Seto, S.I.K., S.H., M.Si., attended the event along with senior BNN officials. The head of the Bali Provincial BNN Office and representatives of the Australian Federal Police were also present.

The event began with remarks from the BNN chief, followed by an address from the Australian Federal Police commissioner. The two agencies then formally signed the renewed MoU before concluding the event with a group photograph.

The renewal of the agreement is part of efforts to strengthen cooperation between Indonesia and Australia in tackling transnational drug-related crimes. Closer coordination between law enforcement agencies is considered important in supporting prevention, enforcement and efforts to curb illicit drug trafficking.

The participation of the Denpasar BNN reflects the commitment of BNN offices at the regional level to support stronger coordination in implementing the Prevention and Eradication of Drug Abuse and Illicit Drug Trafficking program, known as P4GN.

Through the renewed MoU, BNN and the AFP have further strengthened their institutional cooperation as part of broader efforts to address drug networks and trafficking activities that operate across national borders.
