Belgian National Deported from Bali After Viral Cliff-Jumping Stunt with Motorcycle

BALINEWSID.COM, BADUNG – The Ngurah Rai Class I Special Immigration Office has officially deported a 31-year-old Belgian national, identified by the initials SD, on Thursday (April 2, 2026), following his viral stunt of riding a motorcycle off a cliff into the sea at Balangan Beach.

Head of the Ngurah Rai Immigration Office, Bugie Kurniawan, stated that SD was repatriated to his home country on a Qatar Airways flight QR963 bound for Doha. The firm action was taken after authorities confirmed that the individual had engaged in dangerous activities that could threaten public safety and order.

“In addition to deportation, we have also proposed that the individual be placed on the immigration blacklist,” Bugie emphasized.

According to the investigation, the reckless act took place between March 23 and 24, 2026. SD admitted the stunt was carried out as part of his hobby, and it was recorded by an Austrian companion using an action camera before being uploaded to his personal Instagram account.

The incident escalated after the rented motorcycle—owned by Putu Rental Bike Bali—was severely damaged. When asked to take responsibility, SD refused to pay compensation, claiming financial inability.

When summoned for clarification by Ngurah Rai Immigration, SD instead fled to Sorong, Southwest Papua, on March 25, 2026. His attempt to evade authorities continued until March 30, when he tried to leave Indonesia for Kuala Lumpur via Sultan Hasanuddin International Airport in Makassar.

However, immigration officers in Makassar successfully intercepted him during transit, preventing his departure. He was subsequently secured and returned to Bali for further investigation.

Upon his return, SD eventually fulfilled his obligation by compensating the rental company. Nevertheless, immigration proceedings continued, ultimately resulting in his deportation.

Head of the Bali Regional Office of the Directorate General of Immigration, Felucia Sengky Ratna, praised the swift response of officers in foiling the escape attempt. She stressed that the enforcement action reflects the government’s commitment to maintaining security and public order in Bali’s tourism sector.

“This serves as a clear message that any violation of the law will be dealt with firmly and without compromise. We urge all foreign nationals in Bali to comply with regulations and respect public order,” Felucia said.

The Ngurah Rai Immigration Office also called on the public to actively report any disturbing activities involving foreign nationals through official complaint channels, emphasizing the importance of collective efforts in keeping Bali safe, orderly, and conducive as a world-class tourism destination.
