BALINEWSID.COM, DENPASAR – Construction of the Denpasar Raya Waste-to-Energy (WTE) facility is progressing steadily, with overall completion reaching 24 percent as of early November 2026, approximately four months after the project officially broke ground on July 8, 2026.
The progress was announced during a site visit by Commission III of the Bali Regional House of Representatives (DPRD Bali), accompanied by officials from the Bali Forestry and Environment Agency, on Monday, November 2, 2026.
The delegation was led by Commission III Chairman I Nyoman Suyasa and included lawmakers Ni Putu Yuli Artinu, Ni Kadek Darmini, and I Made Rai Warsa. Bali Forestry and Environment Agency Head Made Dwi Arbani also attended the visit.
Suyasa said the visit aimed to ensure that construction was proceeding according to schedule and meeting the required quality standards.
Based on presentations from the Environment Agency and the project contractor, construction progress had reached 24 percent. Work completed so far includes land preparation and the installation of foundation piles.
“Only four months have passed since the groundbreaking on July 8, 2026, and construction has already reached 24 percent. That is quite a good pace,” Suyasa said.
He explained that the project had not encountered any significant obstacles so far. However, recent rainfall had slightly affected construction activities, particularly the drilling work required for foundation pile installation.
According to Suyasa, the drilling process requires relatively dry and sunny weather to ensure optimal working conditions.
Despite the weather-related challenges, he urged the contractor to maintain construction momentum while ensuring that all work meets the required quality standards.
Suyasa expressed hope that construction would be completed in 2027, allowing the facility to begin operations in early 2028.
He also described the project as a demonstration of the central government’s commitment under President Prabowo Subianto to addressing Bali’s growing waste management challenges.
Meanwhile, Bali Forestry and Environment Agency Head Made Dwi Arbani said the Denpasar Raya WTE facility would have the capacity to process up to 1,500 tonnes of waste per day.
The facility is expected to handle a substantial portion of the waste generated by Denpasar City and Badung Regency, which together produce approximately 1,900 tonnes of waste daily.
With a processing capacity of 1,500 tonnes per day, approximately 400 tonnes of waste would still need to be managed through waste reduction and treatment at the source.
“The excess waste will be managed at the source,” Arbani said.
He emphasized that waste management at the source must continue even after the WTE facility becomes operational.
Residents and business operators are therefore encouraged to maintain waste sorting and processing practices from the outset to reduce the burden on the facility and support a more sustainable waste management system across Bali.
The Denpasar Raya WTE project is expected to become a key component of regional efforts to address waste management challenges in Denpasar and Badung, while supporting more sustainable environmental practices in Bali.
