BALINEWSID.COM, TABANAN — Four Nigerian nationals were detained during a joint immigration enforcement operation in Batuaji Village, Kerambitan District, Tabanan Regency, Bali, on Thursday, September 24, 2026.
The operation was conducted by the Tabanan Class III Non-TPI Immigration Office in cooperation with the Tabanan Foreigners Monitoring Team (TIMPORA), involving personnel from the Indonesian Military (TNI), National Police (Polri), Prosecutor’s Office, regional government agencies, and the Bali Regional Office of the Directorate General of Immigration.
The operation began with a briefing on procedures and technical measures before the joint team proceeded to a boarding house in Batuaji.
Upon arrival, officers encountered a Nigerian national identified by the initials VU, who allegedly attempted to avoid the inspection by riding a motorcycle away from the boarding house. Officers pursued and detained him for questioning.
During the initial inspection, VU was unable to produce a passport or a valid Indonesian immigration stay permit.
Based on information provided by the boarding house owner, three other Nigerian nationals were staying in two separate rooms at the property. Officers then proceeded to inspect the rooms.
The three other nationals, identified by the initials OKA, LOA, and CHA, were reportedly uncooperative and attempted to avoid inspection by locking themselves inside their rooms.
With the assistance and consent of the boarding house owner, officers eventually located all three individuals. OKA was found in a room on the second floor and was unable to produce a passport or stay permit. Meanwhile, LOA and CHA were found hiding inside a bathroom in a first-floor room.
Of the four Nigerian nationals examined at the location, only one was able to present a passport and immigration stay documents.
All four were subsequently taken to the Tabanan Class III Non-TPI Immigration Office for further questioning concerning their travel documents, immigration status, and activities and presence in Indonesia.
Following further examination, immigration authorities determined that all four had violated Indonesian immigration regulations. They were subsequently subjected to administrative immigration action in the form of deportation under Article 75 paragraph (1) of Law No. 6 of 2011 on Immigration, as amended several times, most recently by Law No. 63 of 2024.
As a follow-up measure, the Immigration Enforcement Team of the Tabanan Class III Non-TPI Immigration Office transferred the four Nigerian nationals to the Denpasar Immigration Detention Center.
They will remain in detention pending the implementation of the deportation process in accordance with applicable laws and regulations.
Reynald Christian, head of the joint operation team, said the detention of the four Nigerian nationals reflected cooperation and coordination among government agencies in monitoring foreign nationals in Tabanan.
“The successful detention of the four Nigerian nationals in this joint operation demonstrates strong cooperation and coordination among agencies in Tabanan Regency,” Reynald said.
He called on all institutions involved in the Tabanan Foreigners Monitoring Team (TIMPORA) to continue strengthening coordination to help maintain security and public order in the regency.
