BALINEWSID.COM, JAKARTA — A total of 47 hotels and resorts in Indonesia have been recognized in the 2026 Michelin Keys list by the global MICHELIN Guide, marking a new record for the country and highlighting the growing competitiveness of Indonesia’s hospitality sector.

The number represents a significant increase from last year, when 33 Indonesian hotels and resorts were included in the Michelin Keys selection. Indonesia now ranks second in Southeast Asia in terms of the number of Michelin Key recipients, behind Thailand.

Tourism Minister Widiyanti Putri Wardhana welcomed the recognition, saying it reflects the continued improvement of Indonesia’s tourism competitiveness, particularly in the hospitality industry.

“I would like to express my highest appreciation to all hospitality operators and professionals who have consistently maintained high standards of quality,” Widiyanti said in Jakarta on Sunday (Sept. 20, 2026).

The 2026 Michelin Keys selection was based on a rigorous assessment of around 9,000 properties worldwide. Indonesian properties received three different levels of recognition: three hotels and resorts earned Three Keys, 11 received Two Keys, and 33 were awarded One Key.

The latest Michelin Keys list was published on Sept. 18, 2026.

Three Indonesian Properties Receive Michelin’s Highest Recognition

Three Indonesian properties were awarded Three Keys, classified by Michelin as “An Extraordinary Stay.”

They are Nihi Sumba in Sumba, East Nusa Tenggara; Amanjiwo in Magelang, Central Java; and Mandapa, a Ritz-Carlton Reserve in Ubud, Bali.

Meanwhile, 11 properties received Two Keys, or “An Exceptional Stay.” They are Amankila, The Sanchaya, The Apurva Kempinski Bali, Soori Bali, Capella Ubud, Four Seasons Hotel Jakarta, Bulgari Resort Bali, Four Seasons Resort Bali at Jimbaran Bay, Buahan, a Banyan Tree Escape, The Langham Jakarta, and Raffles Bali.

The One Key category, described as “A Very Special Stay,” includes properties such as COMO Shambhala Estate, Capung Sebali, Amandari, Viceroy Bali, Bisma Eight Ubud, Plataran Komodo Resort and Spa, Desa Potato Head Bali, Blue Karma Village, Cap Koroso, Hotel Tugu Lombok, La Reserve 1785 Canggu, Lost Lindenberg, The Puri Villas and Spa, Revivo Wellness Resort Nusa Dua Bali, Nirjhara, Jimbaran Puri, A Belmond Hotel Bali, Samsara Ubud, The Ridge Bali, The Legian Seminyak, Raffles Jakarta, Hotel Le Temple Borobudur, The Dharmawangsa Jakarta, Four Seasons Resort Bali at Sayan, Innit Lombok, Garrya Bianti Yogyakarta, The St. Regis Jakarta, The Ungasan Clifftop Resort, Jumaerah Bali, Desa Hay Canggu, Park Hyatt Jakarta, Taaktana Luxury Collection Resort and Spa Labuan Bajo, The Orient Jakarta: A Royal Hideaway Hotel, and The St. Regis Bali Resort.

Michelin Keys are awarded following an evaluation based on five main criteria, including the quality of architecture and interior design, harmony between the property and its surroundings, consistency of service and hospitality, the hotel’s distinctive character, and its contribution to providing guests with an authentic local experience.

Indonesian Hotels Also Gain Recognition in The World’s 50 Best Hotels 2026

Indonesia’s hospitality sector has also gained recognition in The World’s 50 Best Hotels 2026 ranking.

Desa Potato Head in Seminyak, Bali, ranked 21st. The property combines a boutique hotel, beach club, art and cultural spaces, and a strong commitment to environmental sustainability.

Nihi Sumba, in East Nusa Tenggara, ranked 35th. The resort combines luxury hospitality with local cultural preservation, traditional architecture, and environmental sustainability initiatives.

Mandapa in Bali was also included in the extended ranking, placing 61st.

The World’s 50 Best Hotels ranking is based on reviews and assessments from a global network of experts, drawing on the views of thousands of hospitality professionals and specialists.

Widiyanti said the latest international recognition should serve as momentum for Indonesia’s tourism industry to maintain quality and strengthen its global competitiveness.

“Let us use this momentum to strengthen Indonesia’s position as a world-class tourism destination that is excellent, competitive and sustainable,” Widiyanti said.
