BALINEWSID.COM, DENPASAR — A temporary building used as a scrap storage warehouse caught fire on Jalan Nakula, Gang Jatayu, Banjar Mergaya, Pemecutan Klod Village, West Denpasar District, Denpasar City, Bali, on Monday night (Aug. 31, 2026), at around 10:30 p.m. local time.

The fire was first noticed by Candra Setiawan, who lives east of the site. He said he saw flames coming from the direction of the building and immediately went to the location to check the situation.

Upon arrival, Candra found the fire had grown significantly and had already consumed about half of the temporary building. Concerned that his parents, who lived in the building, might still be inside, he searched for them.

However, his parents were not in the building. Candra then contacted them by phone and learned that they had been outside buying food when the fire broke out.

Another resident, identified as Andre, 25, said he had just returned from work when he saw his house on fire. Firefighters were still working to extinguish the blaze when he arrived.

The building was used to store various types of scrap and used materials. Large piles of discarded items inside the building and on its roof contributed to the rapid spread of the flames. The relatively large area of the site also made firefighting efforts more challenging.

Firefighters from the Denpasar City and Badung Regency Fire and Rescue Services were deployed to the scene to contain the blaze. The operation was monitored by officers from the Denpasar Police, including personnel from the West Denpasar Police Station.

No fatalities have been reported in connection with the incident so far.

Meanwhile, the exact cause of the fire remains under investigation. Police officers from the West Denpasar Police Station and Denpasar Police are conducting further inquiries to determine what triggered the blaze.
