BALINEWSID.COM, BADUNG – The Bali Silent Disco fun run involving a number of foreign nationals in Badung, Bali, has come under scrutiny after videos of the event went viral on social media. The event is suspected of having been held without an official permit from the police, while also raising concerns over alleged discriminatory treatment toward Indonesian citizens.

The controversy has prompted calls for tighter supervision of foreign nationals in Bali, from the visa application process to their activities during their stay on the island.

Member of the House of Representatives (DPR RI) Commission III, I Nyoman Parta, said the handling of two foreign nationals allegedly linked to the incident needs to be evaluated, particularly after the two were reportedly said to have left Indonesia. He also questioned the identity and accountability of the event organizers, as well as the company acting as their sponsor or guarantor.

Parta urged immigration authorities to immediately summon and examine any parties still in Bali to determine whether any legal violations had occurred.

“If the case meets the requirements for legal action, then take legal action. If not, deport them. They should not simply be allowed to go free,” he said firmly.

According to Parta, the fact that action was taken only after the case went viral highlights the need to strengthen the early detection system for foreign nationals’ activities. He said supervision should not begin only after an incident has attracted public attention.

He also criticized what he described as the overly permissive attitude of some members of the public toward foreign tourists. He warned that such a situation could create the perception that Bali is a place where foreigners can act without limits.

“Foreign nationals have only one main entry point, which is immigration. Therefore, immigration must be the first institution responsible for maintaining order,” he said.

Parta said immigration authorities have a strategic role in monitoring foreign nationals, starting from the visa application process and extending to visit permits, temporary stay permits, and permanent residence permits.

He stressed that supervision must begin when a foreign national applies for a visa. Their purpose for coming to Bali should be verified from the outset, while their activities and whereabouts during their stay in Indonesia should also be monitored.

“From the very beginning, when they apply for a visa, they must already be identified and verified. Authorities need to know what they are coming to Bali for. After that, there must be monitoring and control while they are in Bali,” he said.

Parta emphasized that limited personnel should not be used as an excuse to neglect preventive measures. A layered monitoring system, he said, is essential to ensure that potential violations can be detected and addressed at an early stage.

Parta called for a comprehensive evaluation of the foreign national supervision system to be carried out immediately. Such measures are considered important to prevent similar incidents from happening again while ensuring that Bali remains a safe and orderly tourist destination where all visitors respect the laws and regulations in force.
