Cipete Raid Sparks Calls for Cabinet Review Amid Institutional Tensions

BALINEWSID.COM, JAKARTA – The search operation at Cafe de’Clan Signature in Cipete, South Jakarta, on Wednesday (July 8, 2026), has drawn widespread public attention after being linked to speculation over tensions among Indonesia’s law enforcement institutions. The raid, which began at around 11:30 a.m. local time and continued into the evening, involved a joint team of National Police officers and heavily armed Mobile Brigade (Brimob) personnel. Authorities reportedly seized tens of billions of rupiah in cash discovered inside a concealed compartment on the premises.

Amid the ongoing law enforcement operation, public attention also shifted to the heightened security surrounding the residence of the Deputy Attorney General for Special Crimes (Jampidsus) in Kramat Pela, South Jakarta, where armed military personnel were deployed to guard the property. The development has fueled public speculation about possible friction between state institutions.

Several observers noted that the sequence of events has revived memories of past institutional tensions involving Indonesia’s law enforcement agencies. However, no official statement has been issued confirming that the two incidents are connected or that an inter-agency conflict exists.

Public discussion has since focused on the importance of preserving the independence and integrity of the legal process. Various groups have urged authorities to ensure that every case is handled professionally, transparently, and free from political or institutional interests.

Calls have also emerged for all law enforcement agencies—including the National Police, the Attorney General’s Office, the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK), and the Indonesian Military (TNI)—to carry out their respective duties in accordance with the law while upholding the principle of equality before the law and avoiding any perception of institutional rivalry.

The developments have also prompted some members of the public and political observers to urge the government to evaluate the performance of cabinet members. They argue that such an evaluation is necessary to ensure the administration remains focused on implementing its national development agenda, including President Prabowo Subianto’s flagship Asta Cita programs.

In recent months, several government policies have also come under public scrutiny, including the proposed 12 percent value-added tax (VAT), the distribution of subsidized 3-kilogram LPG cylinders, as well as issues related to food security and import regulations. These matters have become key challenges that the government is expected to address in order to maintain public confidence.

As of the time of publication, no official authority has confirmed any connection between the Cipete raid and the security deployment at the Jampidsus residence. Law enforcement agencies stated that the legal process remains ongoing in accordance with applicable laws and procedures.
