Drug Network Inside Kerobokan Prison Exposed, Indonesian Corrections Team Launches Major Crackdown

BALINEWSID.COM, BADUNG – The Directorate of Security and Intelligence (Ditpamintel) of Indonesia’s Directorate General of Corrections (Ditjenpas) has uncovered an alleged narcotics trafficking network operating inside Kerobokan Class IIA Prison in Bali following a large-scale surprise inspection conducted on May 20, 2026.

The operation once again highlighted concerns over the long-standing circulation of drugs inside Bali’s largest prison facility. Authorities acknowledged that the raid was not the first inspection carried out at the prison, but this time officials moved aggressively to dismantle what was believed to be an underground drug distribution operation that had allegedly gone unnoticed publicly for years.

The inspection team, led directly by the Director of Ditpamintel after coordinating with the Bali Regional Office of Ditjenpas, entered the prison at around 2:00 a.m. local time targeting several prison blocks and inmates.

During the search, officers confiscated a number of prohibited items, including various types of narcotics, mobile phones, and alcoholic beverages.

Following the raid, Ditjenpas immediately reported the findings to Bali Police at approximately 5:00 p.m. on the same day. In response, the Bali Police Narcotics Directorate along with narcotics officers from regional police units arrived to receive the report and secure evidence.

Head of the Bali Regional Office of Ditjenpas, Decky Nurmansyah, confirmed that a joint investigation involving Ditpamintel, the Directorate of Internal Compliance of Ditjenpas, Bali Police, and district police units is still ongoing.

“Until now, the Director of Pamintel and team, together with the Director of Internal Compliance of Ditjenpas, Bali Police, and regional police units, are still conducting intensive examinations and further investigations,” Decky said on Friday (May 22).

He added that Ditjenpas has also coordinated with the National Narcotics Agency of Indonesia to carry out broader investigations inside Kerobokan Prison.

However, authorities have yet to disclose the exact amount and weight of the narcotics seized, citing the ongoing investigation process.

“The case is still under further examination. More detailed information will be delivered later,” Decky stated.

The raid and search operation were described as part of the government’s commitment to eradicating drug trafficking inside correctional facilities. Authorities pledged that the final results of the investigation would be transparently disclosed to the public once all examinations and case developments are completed.
