BALINEWSID.COM, DENPASAR – A house fire broke out on Jalan Kerta Dalem Sari III, Gang Cemara No. 11 B, Sidakarya Village, South Denpasar District, on Tuesday (April 7, 2026) at around 12:30 WITA, resulting in the death of an elderly woman.
The victim was identified as Ni Wayan Pasthi (77), a housewife originally from Klungkung who lived at the residence. She was found মৃত in the kitchen area, with parts of her body severely burned.
According to witnesses, the fire was first noticed at approximately 12:25 WITA. Ramada Yanti (56), who had just returned from the market, saw flames already engulfing the house in front of her residence. She immediately shouted for help, alerting nearby residents.

Local residents quickly gathered and attempted to extinguish the fire using basic equipment. However, the flames spread rapidly and consumed the entire building.
Another witness, Kadek Ariantara (55), said he heard people shouting about the fire and saw thick smoke coming from the scene. He and other residents tried to put out the fire but were unsuccessful due to the intensity of the flames. They were also informed that the victim was still inside the house but could not be rescued.
Approximately 15 minutes later, seven fire engines from the Denpasar Fire Department arrived at the scene and began firefighting efforts. The blaze was finally brought under control at around 2:30 PM WITA.
The victim’s body was later evacuated to Prof. Dr. I.G.N.G. Ngoerah General Hospital in Denpasar by a BPBD Denpasar ambulance at 2:45 PM WITA.
Meanwhile, another witness, Ni Wayan Nanik Sudiani (49), stated that the fire was suspected to have been triggered by burning incense used for prayer in the family shrine room. At the time of the incident, the house was occupied by five people, but the victim was alone inside.
In addition to claiming one life, the fire destroyed a permanent house measuring approximately 6 by 5 meters along with all its contents, including a motorcycle and several important documents. The total material losses have yet to be estimated as the family remains in shock.
Authorities stated that the exact cause of the fire is still under preliminary assessment and further investigation is ongoing.
