BALINEWSID.COM, DENPASAR — An assault involving two young men in Sesetan, South Denpasar, has gone viral on social media, prompting a police investigation. The incident occurred on Jalan Suwung Batan Kendal No. 43 at approximately 12:10 a.m. local time on Thursday (April 3, 2026), and was reported to authorities around 2:00 a.m.
The victims were identified as AYW (21), a native of Sumenep, and his friend KASS (21), from Gianyar. According to their statements, the incident began earlier in the evening when they, along with several friends, were consuming alcohol at Mertasari Beach in Sanur Kauh starting at around 9:00 p.m.
At approximately 11:00 p.m., the group dispersed. AYW and KASS then rode a motorcycle from Mertasari Beach, passing through Jalan Bypass Ngurah Rai, Jalan Pemelisan, and eventually Jalan Suwung Batan Kendal.
While passing the scene, the victims were reportedly shouted at by unknown motorcyclists, who accused them of speeding. Moments later, the attackers allegedly approached them, kicked the motorcycle from the right side, and struck one of the victims in the eye, causing the vehicle to lose balance and crash.
After the fall, two unidentified assailants continued to beat both victims before fleeing the scene.
A witness, Ainur Rafik (20), who had earlier been with the victims at Mertasari Beach, said he encountered them shortly after the incident at around 12:10 a.m. He found both men already injured and assisted in transporting them to Prof. Dr. I.G.N.G. Ngoerah General Hospital using a NAMRU ambulance.
As a result of the assault, AYW sustained a laceration above his right eye requiring four stitches. Meanwhile, KASS suffered head pain on the left side, bruising under the left eye, a cut on the lip, and bruising on the right cheek.
Police have secured evidence, including a black Honda Vario motorcycle without front and rear license plates and fitted with a modified exhaust.
The Head of Public Relations of Denpasar Police confirmed that officers have received the report, checked on the victims at the hospital, and collected initial statements from both victims and a witness. The victims have since received medical treatment and been discharged, and are planning to file an official police report.
Authorities are still working to identify the perpetrators, while a video of the incident continues to circulate widely on social media.
