BALINEWSID.COM, JAKARTA — The Indonesian and South Korean governments are strengthening cooperation in the offshore plant service industry through human resource development and technology advancement, marked by the inauguration of the Korea-Indonesia Offshore Plant Service Training Center (KIOS Center) at the Jakarta-based School of Shipping (STIP) on September 15, 2026.

The KIOS Center is part of the implementation of bilateral cooperation outlined in the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on Cooperation in the Field of Offshore Plant Service Industry, signed in Seoul on April 1, 2026.

The cooperation was subsequently followed up through an Implementing Arrangement (IA) for the Indonesia Eco-friendly Offshore Plant Service Industry Capacity Building program under an Official Development Assistance (ODA) framework.

The KIOS Center provides simulator-based training covering the operation and maintenance of offshore facilities, as well as cargo loading and unloading activities.

The program aims to improve the skills of around 240 professionals by 2029 and support the competitiveness of Indonesian domestic companies operating in the offshore plant service sector.

Deputy Coordinating Minister for Energy and Mineral Resources at the Coordinating Ministry for Economic Affairs, Elen Setiadi, said human resource development was a key component in strengthening Indonesia’s offshore plant service industry.

“The inauguration of the KIOS Center is significant in strengthening human resource capacity, improving professional competencies, facilitating knowledge exchange, and developing technological capabilities in the offshore plant service industry,” Elen said.

He added that the KIOS Center was expected to develop beyond a training facility into a long-term collaboration platform involving governments, academia, research institutions, and industry stakeholders from Indonesia and South Korea.

The bilateral initiative is part of broader efforts by the two countries to strengthen the capacity of the offshore plant service industry, particularly by improving the skills of professionals and supporting technology development.

The inauguration was attended by Indonesian Regional Representative Council (DPD) Chairman Sultan Bachtiar Najamudin, South Korean Ambassador to Indonesia Yoon Soon-gu, Head of the Maritime Human Resources Development Center Budi Rahardjo, STIP Chairman Capt. Tri Cahyadi, Korea Maritime and Ocean University President Ryu Dong-geun, and the university’s Dean of Academic Affairs Lee Sang-deuk.
