BALINEWSID.COM, CILEGON — Cilegon Class IIA Correctional Facility (Lapas Cilegon) foiled two alleged attempts to smuggle suspected narcotics into the prison through visitor services on Tuesday (September 29, 2026).

The two incidents were uncovered during the first visitor session at around 10 a.m., when prison officers conducted security checks and monitoring of visitors.

Officers found two separate packages suspected of containing narcotics from two different visitors.

The first package, weighing approximately five grams, was suspected to contain methamphetamine, a Category I narcotic. It was found on a female visitor identified by the initials EFH, who had come to visit an inmate identified as RA, reportedly her husband.

According to the officers’ examination, the suspected methamphetamine had been concealed in an intimate part of EFH’s body in an attempt to avoid detection during the security screening.

In the second case, officers found a package weighing approximately 10 grams that was suspected to contain synthetic tobacco. It was discovered from a male visitor identified by the initials ET, who had come to visit an inmate identified as TS, reportedly his nephew.

The suspected synthetic tobacco was allegedly concealed inside the visitor’s rectum in an attempt to evade the inspection.

Both packages were detected through the multilayered security screening and monitoring system implemented by Cilegon Prison during visitor services. The system is designed to prevent narcotics and other prohibited items from entering the correctional facility.

Prison officers immediately secured the seized items and handled the cases in accordance with applicable procedures. Cilegon Prison subsequently coordinated with the Cilegon Police for further examination and legal action.

Cilegon Prison Head Wahyu Trah Utomo praised the officers for preventing the two alleged smuggling attempts.

“We will not provide any room for narcotics or prohibited items to enter the prison. Security monitoring and inspections will continue to be strengthened, including checks of visitors and their belongings, while adhering to applicable procedures,” Wahyu said.

He said the incidents would also serve as an evaluation for prison personnel to further strengthen vigilance, particularly during visitor services.

According to Wahyu, security measures will be reinforced at every stage of the visitation process, including physical and baggage checks of visitors, monitoring inside the visitation area, and inspections of inmates and their belongings before they return to their residential blocks.

The prison will also optimize the use of closed-circuit television (CCTV) cameras to support security monitoring.

Cilegon Prison will further strengthen coordination with law enforcement agencies and other relevant parties as a preventive measure against the entry and circulation of narcotics inside correctional facilities.

The measures are part of the prison’s efforts to maintain security and order while supporting the rehabilitation of inmates in a safe and controlled environment.
