BALINEWSID.COM, MATARAM — The West Nusa Tenggara Regional Police (Polda NTB) have tested their security preparedness ahead of the 2026 Mandalika MotoGP by staging a security and contingency drill at the Pertamina Mandalika International Circuit.

The simulation, held at the circuit’s East Parking Area, featured a number of scenarios that could potentially occur during the Grand Prix of Indonesia, including crowd security, VVIP protection and responses to emergency situations.

NTB Police Chief Inspector General Kalingga Rendra Raharja attended the exercise alongside representatives of the West Nusa Tenggara provincial government, ITDC President Director Troy Waroka, police chiefs from across Lombok and other relevant stakeholders.

The exercise tested officers’ responses to situations requiring rapid and coordinated action. Scenarios included a suspected bomb threat, a land fire and a protest.

Kalingga said the drill was part of preparations for the 2026 Mandalika MotoGP, scheduled to take place from October 9 to 11.

“The MotoGP security operation is codenamed Operation Mandalika Rinjani 2026 and involves 2,678 personnel from the police, military, government agencies and community security partners,” Kalingga said, as quoted by TBN NTB on Monday (Sept. 28).

Security Operation Involves Multiple Agencies

Kalingga said security preparations for the MotoGP did not begin with the main operation. The NTB Police had previously conducted Operation Kresna Mandalika Rinjani and Operation Cipta Mandalika Rinjani as part of efforts to maintain public security and order ahead of the international event.

“The peak of the MotoGP security preparations is Operation Mandalika Rinjani 2026. This operation is a joint effort involving the police, military, government and all elements of society to ensure the success of this international event,” he said.

The simulation demonstrated security procedures beginning with spectators entering the circuit through designated gates.

VVIP security measures were also demonstrated, along with officers’ responses to various contingency situations requiring rapid action and coordination.

Kalingga said security would be a key component in supporting the smooth running of the MotoGP event. Cross-agency coordination will therefore continue throughout the preparation and implementation stages.

“The success of the MotoGP, so that it can run safely and smoothly, is a shared responsibility,” he said.

ITDC Welcomes Security Preparations

ITDC President Director Troy Waroka welcomed the security preparations carried out by the NTB Police and other stakeholders.

He said the level of preparedness had been demonstrated directly through the simulation ahead of the race weekend.

“We appreciate the security preparations made by the NTB Police. We have witnessed all the preparations being demonstrated through the simulation,” Troy said.

He also called on people across West Nusa Tenggara, particularly residents of Central Lombok, to support the 2026 Mandalika MotoGP.

“Let us work together with the people of West Nusa Tenggara, particularly the people of Central Lombok, to make the 2026 Mandalika MotoGP a success. This will certainly bring positive benefits to the region and its people,” he said.

The simulation is intended to ensure that all security elements share a common understanding of their responsibilities, response procedures and coordination mechanisms in the event of emergencies during the MotoGP series.

The 2026 Mandalika MotoGP is scheduled to take place from October 9 to 11 at the Pertamina Mandalika International Circuit in Central Lombok, West Nusa Tenggara.
