BALINEWSID.COM, JAKARTA — Influenza cases in Indonesia have increased, with the Ministry of Health recording a 46 percent influenza positivity rate in the 36th week of 2026, up from 35 percent the previous week.

The figures were reported in the Ministry of Health’s influenza and COVID-19 surveillance report for Week 37, based on monitoring data through September 19, 2026.

Of the detected influenza cases, 42 percent involved children aged 0 to 4 years, making the age group one of those requiring particular attention in efforts to prevent transmission and complications.

Despite the increase in the positivity rate, the Ministry of Health said national influenza activity remained at a low level and that the overall situation was still under control.

Influenza surveillance is being conducted through sentinel health facilities to monitor the development of cases, identify circulating virus characteristics, and assess the severity of the disease.

Earlier, Professor Tri Wibawa, a professor at Universitas Gadjah Mada, urged the public not to overreact to the increase in influenza cases while continuing to take preventive measures to reduce the risk of transmission.

The public is advised to maintain a healthy lifestyle, practice proper cough and sneeze etiquette, and wash their hands regularly. People are also encouraged to avoid close contact with those experiencing flu symptoms.

Wearing a mask when sick is also recommended to help reduce the risk of transmission. Influenza vaccination remains another preventive measure, particularly for people at higher risk of developing complications.
