BALINEWSID.COM, BADUNG – Bali’s I Gusti Ngurah Rai International Airport tightened security after receiving an electronic message containing an alleged bomb threat on Sunday night, August 2, 2026.

Airport authorities said the message was received at around 9:58 p.m. local time and immediately triggered security procedures involving the airport security committee and relevant agencies.

Communication and Legal Division Head of I Gusti Ngurah Rai International Airport, Gede Eka Sandi Asmadi, said security personnel promptly conducted checks and followed established procedures for handling security threats.

“Based on further investigation, no indication was found to substantiate the information received by the airport,” Gede Eka said in a statement issued Tuesday, August 4.

As a precautionary measure, Airport Security Services personnel and other security agencies tightened security and conducted sterilization operations in the international terminal and other airport areas.

The checks covered passenger waiting areas, check-in zones, terminal lobbies, as well as landside and airside areas.

Authorities also examined passenger manifests and Passenger Information data following reports that the threat allegedly involved a female passenger who was said to be carrying a homemade bomb and planning to hijack an aircraft.

Further checks, including Electronic Customs Declaration data and coordination with immigration authorities, were also conducted.

The investigation reportedly found that the person named in the message was not listed among passengers departing from Ngurah Rai Airport between August 2 and 3. Authorities also found no suspicious individuals or dangerous objects during the security sweep.

The airport management stressed that there was no disruption to flight operations or airport services as a result of the security alert.

“Flight operations and airport services at I Gusti Ngurah Rai International Airport continue to operate safely, smoothly and under control,” Gede Eka said.

The airport urged passengers and the public not to panic or circulate unverified information concerning alleged security threats.

Authorities also warned the public against making jokes, fabricating threats or deliberately spreading false information about bombs, aircraft hijacking or other security disturbances at the airport.

Ngurah Rai Airport is classified as a national vital facility and is subject to strict security measures. Airport authorities emphasized that false reports involving security threats may constitute a legal violation and could result in sanctions under applicable Indonesian law.

Airport management said it would continue coordinating with law enforcement and other authorized agencies to investigate the source and motive behind the message.

As of Tuesday, August 4, flight operations at I Gusti Ngurah Rai International Airport remained normal, with security personnel continuing to maintain heightened vigilance.
