BALINEWSID.COM, DENPASAR – A 44-year-old man was found dead on the roadside of Letda Reta Street, in front of Gang XXVI, Dangin Puri Kelod, East Denpasar, in the early hours of Sunday (July 5, 2026). Police said there were no signs of violence on the victim’s body and the preliminary investigation indicates he likely died from natural causes.
The incident was reported at approximately 12:30 a.m. local time. Upon receiving the report, the duty officer and personnel from the East Denpasar Police (Polsek Dentim) immediately responded to the scene. Officers secured the area, conducted a crime scene investigation, and collected statements from witnesses.
At around 12:41 a.m., an ambulance from the Denpasar City Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) and the Identification Unit (Inafis) of Denpasar Police arrived at the location to examine the victim. The body was later transported to Prof. Dr. I.G.N.G. Ngoerah Hospital (formerly Sanglah Hospital) for further examination.
The victim was identified as Novi Arianto, a 44-year-old man from Tulungagung, East Java.
According to the first witness, Arif Sunardianto, 57, he and his son were closing their food stall at around 12:30 a.m. when he noticed a man lying on the side of the road. They immediately approached the victim and found that he was still breathing, although very weakly.
With the assistance of several local residents, they moved the victim to the parking area of a nearby shop while waiting for emergency responders and contacted the Denpasar City BPBD ambulance.
The second witness, Yoko Arif, confirmed his father’s account, stating that the victim was still showing faint signs of life when they first found him. However, about 10 minutes later, after police officers and medical personnel arrived and conducted an examination, the victim was pronounced dead.
Police said the victim was found lying on his back with his head facing north. He was wearing a black T-shirt, black shorts with a white pattern, and flip-flops.
A preliminary examination by the Denpasar Police Identification Team found no signs of physical violence or external injuries on the victim’s body.
Investigators also recovered several personal belongings near the victim, including pain relief medication, a mobile phone, a wallet, a Bank Mandiri ATM card, and an amount of cash.
Based on the initial findings of the Identification Team, the victim is suspected to have died due to illness. Authorities emphasized that no evidence of foul play or violence was found at the scene.
As of Sunday, police had not yet been able to contact the victim’s family. Officers are coordinating with local neighborhood officials to trace the victim’s residence and notify his relatives while the investigation continues.
