Unidentified Man Found Dead in Ayung River, Joint Team Conducts Evacuation

BALINEWSID.COM, GIANYAR – An unidentified man was found dead in the Ayung River in Kedewatan Village, Ubud District, Gianyar Regency, on Friday (June 19, 2026). The victim’s body was successfully evacuated by a joint team consisting of military personnel, police officers, and the Gianyar Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD).

The discovery was first reported at approximately 10:10 a.m. local time by I Gede Budiarta, an employee of Mandapa Ritz-Carlton Reserve. While observing the Ayung River area, he noticed a motionless person lying on rocks in the river.

Budiarta immediately informed the hotel management, which subsequently reported the incident to local security authorities, including the village police officer (Bhabinkamtibmas) and the village military officer (Babinsa) of Kedewatan Village from Koramil 1616-02/Ubud.

Upon receiving the report, personnel from Koramil 1616-02/Ubud, Ubud Police, and BPBD Gianyar rushed to the scene. The joint team arrived at approximately 11:30 a.m. and immediately secured the area while police officers conducted a crime scene investigation and coordinated the evacuation process.

Babinsa personnel actively assisted in the operation alongside BPBD and police officers. At around 12:30 p.m., the team began the evacuation of the victim from the river. The process was carried out carefully due to the challenging terrain and river conditions.

By 1:00 p.m., the body had been successfully recovered and transported through Banjar Tegal Kuning in Bongkasa Village.

Initial observations at the scene revealed that the victim was found lying on his back and trapped among river rocks. The body had already become stiff but showed no significant signs of swelling. The man was shirtless and was wearing only knee-length blue denim shorts. His head was facing west, his feet east, and both hands were positioned on his chest.

Authorities have yet to identify the victim. The body will be transferred to Sanglah Hospital for further examination. Meanwhile, investigators from Gianyar Police are continuing their inquiry to determine the victim’s identity and the exact cause of death.
