Denpasar Police Chief Inspects Suwung Landfill After Viral Video, Ensures Situation Remains Under Control

BALINEWSID.COM, DENPASAR –  Following a viral video on social media showing a truck driver forcing entry into the Suwung Final Disposal Site (TPA), Denpasar Police Chief, Senior Commissioner Leonardo D. Simatupang, conducted a surprise inspection at the location on Thursday (April 2, 2026).

The inspection aimed to ensure that security and public order remain stable after the implementation of a new policy. Since April 1, 2026, the Suwung landfill has only been accepting inorganic and residual waste, while organic waste is no longer permitted.

Based on coordination with the Acting Head of the Regional Waste Management Unit (UPTD), several trucks—both government-operated and privately managed—have complied with waste sorting regulations and passed verification in accordance with applicable requirements.

During the inspection, the process of receiving and checking inorganic waste was observed to be running smoothly and under control. Trucks that met the requirements were marked with stickers on their windshields as proof of verification.

To anticipate potential security disturbances, personnel from the South Denpasar Police Sector were deployed around the landfill area. Their presence is intended to maintain order and ensure a sense of security for all parties operating at the site.

Denpasar Police Public Relations Head, I Gede Adi Saputra Jaya, stated that overall conditions at the Suwung landfill are currently conducive. He urged truck drivers and related parties to comply with the established policy.

“We urge all truck drivers and stakeholders to follow the regulations so that waste management can run in an orderly manner and not disrupt public security,” he said.

However, some complaints were still reported from truck drivers at the site. One driver, who requested anonymity, said tensions had arisen with officers after the household waste he was transporting was rejected.

“We had an argument with the officers because our household waste was not accepted. We are confused about where to dispose of it, while each trip costs fuel,” he said.

He also noted the absence of a concrete solution for handling organic waste that had already been collected. He warned that drivers might remain at the location until clarity is provided.

“If there is no solution, we will stay here. If there’s no way out, this waste could end up being dumped on the streets,” he added.

With the direct monitoring by the Denpasar Police Chief, authorities hope that the implementation of the waste segregation system at the Suwung landfill will run optimally and gain support from all elements of society.
